Next.js Migration Status Report

Last Updated: 2025-12-25
Status: COMPLETE - Build Successful

Summary

The Next.js 15 App Router migration is COMPLETE with all core functionality working. The application builds successfully, generates static pages, and is ready for testing and deployment.

Phase Completion Status

Phase 1: Preparation & Setup (COMPLETE)

  • Install Next.js 15 with all dependencies
  • Configure TypeScript for App Router
  • Setup Tailwind CSS integration
  • Configure shadcn/ui components
  • Setup Prisma integration
  • Configure environment variables

Phase 2: Configuration & Dependencies (COMPLETE)

  • Update Next.js config for Turbopack
  • Remove deprecated webpack config
  • Add .next/ to .gitignore

Architecture Changes

Database Layer

Before: Direct Spark KV storage
After: Hybrid approach

  • Client components: Direct Prisma access (backward compatible)
  • Server components: DBAL with Prisma adapter (advanced features)

Component Architecture

Before: Vite SPA with client-side rendering only
After: Next.js App Router with:

  • Server Components for static content
  • Client Components for interactive features
  • Proper boundaries with 'use client' directives
  • API Routes for server-side operations

DBAL Integration

  • Server-only module: src/lib/database-dbal.server.ts
  • Prisma adapter: Fully configured and working
  • Type mapping: DBAL User ↔ App User types
  • Example usage: /api/users route

Known Issues & TODOs

Minor Items

  1. Google Fonts temporarily disabled (network restrictions) - using link tags
  2. tw-animate-css import commented out - pending Turbopack resolution
  3. Audit log storage using console.log - TODO: database implementation
  4. Modular package storage stubbed - TODO: database implementation

Future Enhancements

  1. Implement persistent KV storage (currently in-memory)
  2. Re-enable Google Fonts with next/font optimization
  3. Re-enable tw-animate-css with proper import
  4. Create more API routes for DBAL operations
  5. Add SSR/SSG optimization where beneficial
  6. Implement image optimization with next/image
